University Park Recreation District Board Position Available

Michael Smith, one of the original RD Board members, has tendered his resignation from the RD Board of Supervisors effective at the end of January 10, 2020 meeting.  Michael was instrumental in negotiating the contract that enabled the UPRD to purchase the club and settle the Garrett lawsuit.   Michael’s dedication and efforts were enormous, and he will be sorely missed by this Board.

His position for the remainder of his term will be filled by a vote of the existing UPRD Board of Supervisors.  There is no election at this time.  If you are interested in applying for the Board, please submit a one-page note containing a summary of your resume and why you wish to be on the Board.  Please be sure to include your name, contact information, email address and mobile number.  Submit your application via email to Ms. Carol Harris, Assistant District manager at HarrisCa@pfm.com no later than January 7, 2020.  The Board will review all applicants at the District’s regular meeting on January 10th.

Please consult the RD website ( www.universityparkrd.com) for information about the RD or feel free to contact any one of the current Board members (contact information is on the website) to discuss this role.  The Board operates as a governmental organization and therefore is subject to The Florida Sunshine Laws.

Update on the Collection of the 1-Time Special Assessments

The District has collected 1,198 assessments leaving only four (4) that remain outstanding.  District Council has confirmed that all four have been notified, and we are hopeful to collect the remaining assessments.  Council will begin filing suits to enforce unpaid Assessments as required by Florida Law.

Update on Post-Closing Matters

The District reviewed the budget for the club along with its list of fees and charges.  The District will hold a public hearing on the budget and charge list at its meeting on February 14, 2020.

Concerning the sellers’ costs, the District has made progress on this issue.  We expect it to be resolved soon.

The Mutual Cooperation Agreement (“MCA”) was executed on Friday.  The MCA documents how the RD and the HOA will work together for the good of the community.  The District is pleased with the MCA.

Auditor Selection

The Auditor Selection Committee will interview prospective auditors and recommend their top candidate to the Board.  The Board will select the auditor at its regular meeting on January 10, 2019.
