RENOVATION UPDATES
The Park Grille and Lakeside Room Are Ready for Dining The reopening celebration dinners on January 20, 21 and 22 are sold out! For
those of you not able to participate in this special event, there are unlimited opportunities going forward to enjoy this totally updated space and the innovative menus from Chef Roger.

Thanks to the tremendous work on the part of the University Park Country Club Management, RD Board of Supervisors, and the Resident volunteers, the total renovation was completed on time and on budget. Not an easy task in these days of supply chain interruptions and labor shortages.

In addition to the visual changes, The Park Grille and Lakeside room will also feature an audio loop, acoustical sound dampening equipment and enhanced air filtration system.

Outdoor Dining/Café

Now that The Park Grille and Lakeside Room renovations are completed, changes to the outside Café space will be even more impactful. The current canvas canopy will be replaced with an aesthetically superior fixed roof that provides an upscale feel as well as additional opportunities for enhanced climate and insect control. The highlight of the new Café will be the 19-seat circular bar, complemented by soft seating areas, high top tables, and of course ample traditional dining. Given the construction requirements of the new Café, work is not scheduled to begin until early May so as to minimize disruption to our members during the high season. Completion is targeted for early Fall.

Pickleball Courts

The target date for the courts to be ready is on or around June 1 with construction scheduled to begin by early April. Currently the project is awaiting permits from Manatee County which will hopefully be received by mid- February.

Croquet Pitch

Thanks to Curtis Nickerson and his team, construction is completed! We are now dependent upon mother nature before we can allow play to begin on the new pitch.

QUESTIONS?  RUMOR OR FACT?

If you have a question or want to fact-check something you have heard, please reach out to

upcc.masterplan@gmail.com.

We will use these questions and comments to develop topics for our regular communications. You will not be identified in any way, so feel free to reach out!

The most recent question we received had to do with the tax status of the RD.

Question: The understanding was that as a public entity the RD did not pay state or federal taxes on their operations. Question one is whether the RD is indeed an entity that is not required to pay taxes on income earned through operations or for that matter whether the RD pays taxes on goods or services that they purchase. Question two is why the RD charges taxes on the goods and services that they provide to their members or the public. Question three is what happens to the taxes that are collected?

Response: The University Park Recreation District (“the District”) is a governmental entity that is organized under Florida statues. As a governmental entity, we are required to file an annual report with the state of Florida in lieu of federal and state tax returns. Regarding sales and use taxes, the District is not required to pay sales tax on purchases for supplies and materials consumed by the District. We are required to collect and remit sales and use tax on membership dues and member and non-member purchases in the pro shop and restaurant.

Thank you for subscribing to and reading Realizing Our Vision. We know that without your trust and engagement in this significant undertaking, we will not be successful.

SIGN UP, STAY INFORMED. INFORMATION FOR YOUR INBOX

Thanks to all of you who signed up after the first newsletter. Unfortunately, many of our residents and University Park Country Club members still aren’t signed up to receive this or other communications regarding the UPRD (University Park Recreation District). Some believe that providing the University Park Homeowners’ Association (UPCAI) with their email address will also have them receive UPRD communications. This isn’t the case since Florida law requires a separation of HOA and RD lists, so all community residents and Club members need to sign up for both!

We would ask each of you to forward this news update to your friends, and ask that they do the same. Our goal is to get everyone informed and engaged. Here is a link to sign up for future updates for those who haven’t yet done so.
