Public Records Request

The District will respond to public records requests in accordance with the Public Records Act. It is essential to recognize that numerous statutory provisions provide exemptions to this Act or classify certain documents as confidential. Additionally, depending on the complexity of the request, it may be necessary to consult Supervisors, staff, and other individuals who might possess relevant documents not yet submitted to the Records Custodian. Consequently, a request that seems straightforward may require more time to process than initially anticipated. Please note that the Public Records Act does not mandate the creation of new records.

While you are not required to submit a public records request in writing under the Public Records Act, providing some specificity regarding your request may assist the ability to provide the requested documents and limit the need for a deposit or payment for the public records request. Therefore, completing and submitting the form below may help both you and the District by minimizing potential confusion regarding the documents you wish to access. However, please note that using the form is not a legal requirement.

In accordance with the Public Records Act, if the District anticipates that obtaining the records will require extensive clerical or supervisory labor (exceeding 15 minutes), the District may impose a charge for such labor. Additionally, a deposit may be required before work begins to gather the records. Should the labor required be less than the deposit, the excess will be refunded to the requester. Conversely, if the labor exceeds the initial deposit, the requester will be required to pay the additional amount before the records are released. Furthermore, if you request printed copies of the documents, the District may charge for printing costs, which will vary depending on the size and nature of the documents.
